Boise moves forward with application to reopen Pioneer railroad line
"Amtrak’s Pioneer line used to run 24 hours a day, carrying passengers from Portland, Oregon, to Boise, Idaho, to Salt Lake City, Utah, and back. In 1997, however, the last Amtrak left the Boise Depot and the city hasn’t had a passenger train since.
As part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the federal government recently earmarked over $60 billion to improve and restore train systems across the United States. Part of this bill requires that the Federal Railroad Administration conduct studies to assess the feasibility of reopening all discontinued railroad lines in the country. "

Pueblo could get a new contemporary train station
A state commission is considering the viability of linking the proposed service to Amtrak's Southwest Chief, a long-distance passenger rail line that runs from Los Angeles to Chicago with stops in southeastern Colorado and northern New Mexico.
They’re studying the idea of a through-car, which a passenger could board anywhere along the Chief’s route and ride it all the way to Pueblo or Colorado Springs without changing trains. It's a plan that's been on the table for the better part of a decade.
The through-car is so important to the Front Range Rail, because it'll break us on to the front range.
Acela
The debut of train sets intended to replace Amtrak’s Acela fleet will be delayed another 18 months, according to the passenger rail service, citing “rigorous” testing requirements to operate the high-speed technology for the first time in the United States.
Amtrak's new Acela fleet, scheduled to enter service on the Northeast Corridor (NEC) in 2023.

The mayor of Moline, Illinois Senator Mike Halpin, and State Representative Gregg Johnson are fed up with Iowa Interstate Railroad holding up passenger rail in the Quad Cities. This morning, they announced they've asked the Illinois Department of Transportation and Amtrak to request intervention from the Surfact Transportation Board.
Moline Mayor Sangeetha Rayapati says Iowa Interstate Railroad has been what she calls, "moving the goalposts," in negotiations to allow Amtrak to use its tracks for passenger rail service between Chicago and Moline. She says in recent years, talks with the railroad were positive."
Twin Cities-Milwaukee-Chicago intercity rail
The focus of the Nov 2nd meeting was the Twin Cities-Milwaukee-Chicago Intercity Passenger Rail Project (TCMC), which would add a second daily round-trip passenger train along the 411-mile corridor between St. Paul and Chicago.
The additional passenger train would use Amtrak's existing Empire Builder and Hiawatha routes. The service would provide more travel choices and flexibility with morning and mid-day departures from St. Paul and Chicago, as well as more reliable service with improved on-time performance for both passenger and freight trains.
Construction scheduled from 2024 into 2025, and service is anticipated to begin at the end of 2024.
